安永の頃（1777年）に生活土器（雑器）を製作した事が始まりです。次第に素朴で温かみのある人形や動物を作るようになりました。古博多人形の流れをくむ土人形で、原色を用いるのが特徴です。半永久的に使える人形の型は、江戸時代の型も代々受け継がれ、今も作品を生み出しています。
About Chikuzen Tsuyazaki Ningyo Koubou
aving a history of more than 240 years, Chikuzen Tsuyazaki Ningyo Koubou has created traditional folk clay dolls and animals in Fukutsu City, Fukuoka in Japan.
They started creating miscellaneous items made out of clay in 1777, and gradually shifted to create simple dolls and animals that has a warm atmosphere.
Their clay figures are characterized by the use of primary colors, and that follows the flow of the Old Hakata Dolls, vary famous clay dolls which can be traced back over 400years.
Since the Plaster/clay molds for doll-making can be used almost semi-permanently, they still use the one created in the Edo period (1603- 1868). All the old molds have been passed down from one generation to another until now.
「モマ」とは？
津屋崎ではふくろうのことを「モマ」と言います。先を見通す能力を持つ生き物とされ、地元の宮地嶽神社では昔から縁起物としてモマ笛が授与されていました。お年寄りが食事前にモマ笛を吹いて気道を広げ、食べ物が喉につまらない為の道具としても使われていました。あどけないモマ笛の顔や「ホーホー」という笛音は、不思議と懐かしさを感じます。
What is “Moma”?
In Tsuyazaki area, owls have been called “Moma” .
As owls said to be a creature with the special ability to see into the future, the Moma Whistle clay dolls have been awarded as a lucky charm to the local Miyajidake Shrine for a long period of time.
Also, the Moma Whistle clay dolls are used in practical terms for the elderly to widen the airways by blowing a whistle in order not to let eating food get stuck in their throat.
The innocent face of Moma whistle and the peaceful whistle tune make us feel nostalgic.

奈良県の香芝市で障害のある人とアート・デザイン・ビジネスの垣根をこえた仕事づくりに取り組んでいます。3Dプリンターなどの新技術を使った張り子づくりや漆のアイテムなど、ニュータイプのクラフトは昔ながらの手作業と障害のある人の表現とが組み合わせることで、温かみのある仕上がりとなっています。
About Good Job! Center
We work with people with disabilities to co-create new job opportunities that transcends the boundaries of arts, design, and business.
Combining traditional handicrafts and new technology with artistic expression created by people with disabilities, new type of arts and crafts (e.g.Lacquerware, papier mache objects made in 3D printer etc.) that have a warm presence have been produced.
新しい郷土玩具の可能性
Good Job!センター香芝（以下GJ!センター）の張り子は、新しい郷土玩具の可能性として、張り子の型を3Dプリントし、紙の貼り合わせと絵付けを手作業で組み合わせて制作しています。
このコラボレーションは、ニュートラディショナルのプロジェクトの中で津屋崎人形の原田さんとの交流が始まり実現しました。
今年の３月にお互いの張り子と土人形を交換して絵付けをしたものを展示したことをきっかけに、販売して欲しいというお声を多数いただき今回の限定販売となりました。
GJ!センターで製作した張り子の素地を福岡へ送り、津屋崎人形の職人の原田さんが絵付けをしてくださいました。
普段の土人形への絵付けと、張り子への絵付けは想像以上に違うようで、試行錯誤していただき生まれた「モマ笛 Good Dog」郷土玩具の新しい可能性を求め、今後もコラボレーションを行います。
The New Possibility of Traditional Folk toys
In order to explore another possibility of creating new folk toys, all the papier mache products are made in a new method; 3D printing for shaping the mold of the dolls and handcrafting for the collage and painting.
The collaboration started when we met Harada, Chikuzen Tsuyazaki Ningyou Koubou. We exchanged our original products,- clay dolls and papier mache animals- painted on it each other, and exhibited in an exhibition.
After the event, we received a lot of requests of the restocked products, so this is why we have started selling the limited edition products this time.
Harada, the artisan of the Chikuzen Tsuyazaki Ningyo Koubou in Fukuoka, painted on the papier mache created by people with disabilities in the Good Job! Center in Nara. According to Harada, painting on papier mache was quite different from the one on clay more than he had expected, it was challenging.
Through trial and error, the product was born.
We would love to continue the collaboration while seeking new possibility of creating new traditional folk arts.
