「お蚕さんを育ててみいへん」という言葉を受けてはじまったお蚕さんとの日々。

本書は、Good Job！センター香芝にお蚕さんが卵でやってきてから、障害のある人とともにお蚕さんを育て、お蚕さんや桑について学び、養蚕や絹などの文化や歴史、絹糸を使ったものづくりに触れてきた体験をまとめたものです。

育てたのは、純日本産の「小石丸」という品種。

繭は落花生のように中央がくびれており、一般的な繭と比べると3分の２くらいの小ささになります。

この「小石丸」のお蚕さんを育てることの周辺にある、ものづくりや表現、食、祈りなどさまざまな事柄に取り組むなかでメンバーやスタッフが感じてきたことや発見したこと。育てることを通して、私たちがお蚕さんから教えられたこと。お蚕さんという小さな生命からひろがる世界に触れ、私たちをとりまく自然と出会うことができる、１冊です。

It Is Silkworms That Raise Us

“Why don’t you raise silkworms?”

The days we spent with silkworms started from the remark by a friend
of us, fabric-dyeing artist.

The book portraits the hands-on
experience of raising silkworms with people with disabilities: we raised them
from the eggs, learned about them, their food- mulberry leaves, the culture and
history of silkworm farmers and its industry and created products using the
silk thread made from the cocoons.

 “Koishimaru”silkworm variety that we raised is
a purely domestic silkworm in Japan. Compared to a typical
one, Koishimaru cocoon is two-third of the size and has a narrow part on the
center like a peanut shell.

Through new experience of raising silkworms such as
silk-thread spinning, creative expression, food making and prayer, we felt and
learned new things from them. The book will take you through a journey to a
unique world spreading from a silkworm as a living entity and meet the nature
surrounds us.
